Can you help our 2013 stand?

Could your Club or Society fill a basket for the GFGS Stand? The basket would be loaned to you and we would be looking for about seven Clubs/Societies to take part, We’ve already had interest from three! On average the baskets are 15”-18” in diameter and 6” in depth, they will comfortable hold 4 x 5”pots. One of the photos below shows a basket holding 3 x 5” pots of chrysanths, but it could have held 4 pots.

This is an opportunity for you to promote your Club/Society at a major event by just filling a basket with flowers, fruit or vegetables, if you’re interested please contact Rod Wells at rod.wells@gfgs.org.uk or telephone 01684 294485 for more information.

The GFGS Stand at the Malvern Show, 2012

At 2 pm on Thursday 27th September 2012 I met Martin Davis, Syd Reed and Dave Richards in the Harvest Pavilion at the Three Counties Showground to start putting together the GFGS Stand for the Malvern Autumn Show 2012.

With the frame for the GFGS Banner erected, the banner in place and the rest covered in black material along with five tables we put up two sets of display boards, one at either end, it was then time to bring in a few plants, two super variegated Crassula and a small basket of pea beans compliments of Syd Reed, two plates of onions, two plates of shallots and a plate of garlic compliments of Martin Davis and a lovely red Coleus compliments of Dave Richards.

At about 5 pm we called it a day although there was just time for some talk of shallots before we left the marquee (see photo!)

At about 3 pm on Friday 28th I returned with a few more props to find that Frances Zygmunt had been and left two lovely flower arrangements containing flowers grown by the Garden Club at Chosen Hill School, Gloucester. I finished the display with some well-placed GFGS promotional leaflets, hoping that if the wind got up in the night I wouldn’t return in the morning to find them all over the marquee!

Arrived bright and early on Saturday 29th to find everything where I had left it! During the day the stand was stewarded by John Wilson, Martin Davis, Tom and Rose Price and Carole my long suffering other half.

I arrived even earlier on Sunday 30th so I could get my vehicle as close as possible to the Stand, didn’t quite get it into the marquee! During the day the stand was stewarded by Frances Zygmunt, Jan Broadway, Alan Cursue, Dave Richards and Steve Yells. At about 4.30 pm we started to take the stand down and I’m grateful to all those who stewarded for helping with that, with the exception of Dave Richards who had his own packing up to do, having won a number of firsts etc., in the alpine section of the show. Isn’t it strange how these things come down quicker that they go up!

My thanks to all those mentioned above, without their help and hard work we would not have produced a stand which was admired by many attending the show (except the judges!) and also potentially gained the GFGS and Guild of Judges some new members.

I’m already planning for next year, but more about that in the next GFGS Newsletter!

Enjoy the photos!

Rod Wells.
