2012 Sweet Pea Show

The GFGS 2nd Open Sweet Pea Show was held on 21st July 2012 in Shurdington Community Centre.

The judge, Mr Harvey who is a qualified sweet pea judge from Bristol, commented that even the non-awarded exhibits were of a much higher standard than last year. We had no non-spenser cultivars, even though there was a class specifically for them. The winner of the best vase was of standard to be expected in a national show.

The winners were:

Three Vase Class

Class 1: Five stems per vase, one distinct cultivar per vase. Spencer type. (This Class was sponsored by Mr. Phil Kerton of Kerton Sweet Peas)

  • First Prize: Mr Gwilliam
Only one entry was received in this class.

Single Vase Class

Class 2: One vase, white or cream. Five stems per vase. Spencer type.

  • First Prize: Mr D. Sutton
  • Second Prize: Mr P. Champion
  • Third Prize: Mr Webb
Four entries were received in this class.

Class 3: One vase, red, orange/red or orange. Five stems per vase. Spencer type.

  • First Prize: Mr Gwilliam
  • Second Prize: Mr Webb
Two entries were received in this class.

Class 4: One vase, magenta, maroon or purple. Five stems per vase. Spencer type.

  • First Prize: Mr Webb
  • Second Prize: Mr P. Macey
  • Third Prize: Mr P. Champion
Four entries were received in this class.

Class 5: One vase, mauve, lavender or blue. Five stems per vase. Spencer type.

  • First Prize: Mr D. Sutton
  • Second Prize: Mr R. Scrivens
  • Third Prize: Mr P. Macey
Five entries were received in this class.

Class 6: One vase, pink. Five stems per vase. Spencer type.

  • First Prize: Mr R. Scrivens
  • Second Prize: Mr Webb
  • Third Prize: Mr P. Macey
Three entries were received in this class.

Class 7: One vase, picotee or fancy. Five stems per vase. Spencer type.

  • First Prize: Mr P. Champion
  • Second Prize: Mr R. Scrivens
Two entries were received in this class.

Class 8: One vase, mixed cultivars. Five stems per vase. Spencer type.

  • First Prize: Mr Gwilliam
  • Second Prize: Mr R. Scrivens
  • Third Prize: Mr R. Scrivens
Seven entries were received in this class.

Mixed Bowl Class.

Class 9: A Bowl of not more than 20 stems of sweet peas. Spencer type. To be viewed all round and judged for quality and decorative effect.

  • First Prize: Mrs V. Guy
  • Second Prize: Mr P. Champion
  • Third Prize: Mr R. Scrivens
Five entries were received in this class.

Class 10: A vase of 5 ‘old fashioned’ sweet peas.
No entries were received in this class

Class 11: A pot or container of flowering sweet pea plants (maximum pot size 8” or 204mm)

  • First Prize: Mr S. Reed
  • Second Prize: Mr D. Sutton
  • Third Prize: Mr Webb
Two entries were received in this class.
